I bought the 8560 18 months ago. I have only used it for about 10,000 copies. When I went to turn it on today I heard a pop and then smelled burning electrical components. I unplugged the machine, plugged it in again and nothing happened when I tried to turn it on. I called tech support which wanted over $300 for the first 1/2 hour of work plus the cost of parts. I then asked to speak with a warranty specialist and was told it costs over $400 for an extended two year warranty. This would cover 100% of the labor but I would still have to pay for parts. It looks like it is going to cost me over 50% of the original cost of the printer to keep it running.
Looking back over the last 5 Xerox printer I have purchases, 4 of them have broken. One 8400 stopped working and was going to cost $700 to fix so we replaced it with a new 8560 which the screen has stopped working. All we see is the blue glow without any text. We purchased a 7760 laser and after three years it never stops "warming up" so it cannot be used. The 8560 I bought last year has now broken. I was very attracted to the initial cost of the printer (under $1000 dollars) but with the cost of ink and an extended warranty the cost skyrockets. I do not like to throw good money after bad.
If you buy a Xerox they, and I now, recommend you spend the extra cost to get the extended warranty. For me the total cost of ownership of the Xerox line is too much for my small business and will need to look at an alternative brand.
