I've had this printer for about 2 years now, maybe 3, and at first it was a dream. Very affordable (I paid about $70 for mine), the ink was reasonably priced (for ink) and it printed beautifully. Now i'm having issues with the ink. I get one or two consistent uses out of an ink cartiridge before the Yellow mysteriously stops working. It always seems to be the yellow, even though i mostly print blues and reds. The printer heads are frequetly gummed, and if i clean them with alcohol, i get maybe one more use out of them before they gum up again. This time around, i bought cartridges in March and they worked just fine. I printed maybe 5 whole color pages and 10 black and white pages. By April, the yellow wasn't working. And now, in June, the black isn't working.
The printer does not have a way to tell what the ink levels are, which if i had known that, i wouldn't have bought it. But i can tell the cartridges aren't empty, and i can't tell you how frustrating it is to get 2/3 of the way through a page only to ahve the last 1/3 come out red because the black gummed up again.
I don't use remanufactured cartridges, and i don't use off-brand or generic. I've only ever used HP Vivera inks, like it says to.
I don't know if this is an issue with the printer or the cartridges, and if anyone has any advice on the matter, it'd be most appreciated. The printer is very very good, and i have been pleased with its performance... as long as i don't get gummy ink cartridges. But without functioning ink, the printer is pretty useless. So, HP needs to fix this issue before i buy from them again. Meanwhile, i'm going to look at Epsons.
