Hi, this is a review of the HP officejet all in one printer, scanner, fax, copier.
I'll make it simple, it's an absolute steaming pile of donkey excrement, don't buy it or anything made by this company of crooks.
It was on sale for $129 down from $349. I bought it; then I began my nightmare of a journey.
After installing the software I find the authorization files for ALL of my software had been corrupted by the installer and I had to reinstall EVERYTHING in my system: I use this computer (Mac) for music recording and video editing, so that was about a 3 day job to get back running again. Then I find the unit itself didn't work and I had to waste another day at Fry's just to exchange it.
It printed wonderfully for 3 months and then the prints started looking like those skid marks the dog leaves on the carpet. A call to HP support leads me to discover the print heads had expired. They wanted $300 for new print heads, no they were not covered under warranty. $300 for print heads in a machine that I paid $129 for? I smell a rat, a dirty, foul smelling rat with explosive diarrhea...
I discovered after an extensive online search that many people had the same problem, one found a solution, if you clean/soak the print heads in ammonia they would work again.
The ink cost $50 a pop and it was designed to refuse to print anything if one cartridge was out. The heads clogged if you didn't print anything in one weeks time and it took 1/8 of the ink cartridge just to get them clean again. By the time you printed a few things it was $50 for ink time again.
HP also engineered the device to refuse to print if the ink cartridge was expired, even if it was new and chock full of ink. There was a chip in the ink cart that was dated. You would have to remove the internal battery in the printer overnight to get it to bypass that function.
The multi-feed scanner function only worked 1/4 ass at best, which was the main reason I bought it; to back up hundreds of documents. It took 7 months (it should have taken 3 weeks) to back up those documents with all of the errors I had to deal with, and had to rescan most pages several times before I got a good, usable scan.
I never used the fax.
The copier worked, how well was in direct relation to the ink and print head issues.
All in all, this is the worst device I have ever owned. I am disgusted at all the the things that HP has done to make the customer OVERpay for unnecessary goods and services. Engineering this device to shut down if you don't use the ink by a certain date, even if it is full. Not allowing you to use other manufacturers ink, and trying make you pay $300 for print heads that "expire" 3 months after purchase when they could simply be cleaned. This constitutes deceptive business practices and fraud. I would even charge them with polluting the environment as all of these devices will end up in a landfill.
The HP executives and engineers responsible for these practices should be arrested and made to pay compensation to all of their victims/customers. I strongly advise you to not purchase ANY HP products, do not support their criminal activities. If you have purchased any of their products engineered in this manner, file complaints with the appropriate agencies. Put a stop to consumer robbery, don't be held hostage and pay their ransom.

Remove the internal battery for a few hours, maybe overnight. Replace the battery with the expired ink cartridge installed and it should print.
>>>>>
Place the bottom of the print head on a towel soaked in ammonia for an hour or more if needed. This will unclog it and it will work again. You may need to do this a few times depending on how bad it is.
Also clean all the metal contacts where the printhead attaches in the carrier.

Has anyone else had the same problem?
I just got a little furious with all of the issues I had after having been forced to pay $50. for ink and $300 for replacement print heads and it still never worked. So I beat it into a pile of tiny plastic chinks and now it still doesn't work but I am at least happy.
