This printer is a perpetual thorn in my side. Annoyingly long startup time after pushing power button, slow text printing (compared to my 6 year old cannon color printer), and no auto-off function. Biggest gripe is Epson's novel idea to keep you buying color ink from them. The printer will refuse to print black and white text documents if you run "out" of any one of the 5 color inks. No switching printer settings to greyscale or black only like so many other printer out there. This is a real treat to find out the night before a school paper is due. Also, ink seems to diappear into the abyss without printing. After finding out about epson's little ink scheme and replacing the cartridge (with all the other inks reading fine on epson's printer software), i go to print a couple black and white word processing documents a couple days later (haven't printed any color in this time) and the printer promptly tells me i am now out of the yellow and light majenta inks and "very low" on the two cyan inks. How convenient. But never fear, epson supplies a nice little popup when you run out of ink that tells you how to order some more colored ink from them via the internet. Real helpful if every document i needed to print could wait 3-5 days for a printer cartridge to get mailed to me. However they never give you any info on how to make the printer print in simple black ink if you don't want to buy a new color cartridge before you can print any more documents. Every Canon printer i have owned has allowed you to do this with no problem or issue. Set printer settings to greyscale and off you go. Epson's black and white setting still nets the "out of _____ color ink" holdup. WORST PRINTER EVER! PURE FRUSTRATION!
